"Jean’s excellent performance perfectly captures her music’s attractive juxtaposition of solemn grandeur and beauty. Igbo Landing” is a poignant, soulful tribute to the ancestors of the Middle Passage. Bringing their dark past to light, Jean recounts and pays homage to the Igbo people of Nigeria, who avoided a life of slavery by sacrificing their lives off the coast of St. Simons Island, Georgia in 1803. Her composition attempts to capture the late African people’s exhilarating struggle, and the impassioned harmonies exude a sentiment that is altogether powerful, consuming and exhilarating.
